I am excited about our upcoming watercolor paint in! We will be working on a portrait with a holiday theme so draw the included image lightly.
Please bring the following:
A 12x16 piece of 100% cotton watercolor paper. Arches is my preferred brand. Art Outfitters is an excellent resource or Michaels. You will also need a Masonite board or artist’s board to attach your paper to.
Artist grade paints in your palette –I almost always have in my palette:
Prussian Blue
Ultramarine
Colbalt Blue
Cerulean blue
Phthalo green (blue shade)
Sap green
Green Gold
Yellow Ochre
Quinacridone Gold
Aureolin or Nickel Azo Yellow
Alizarin Crimson
Pyrrole Red
Vermillion
Quinacridone Rose
Perinone Orange
Burnt Sienna and Burnt Sienna Light
Sepia
Neutral Tint
Container for water
Roll of paper towels or a sponge
Graphite paper for transferring images
Photocopies of my image
Masking fluid – I prefer “Incredible White”- but you may use whatever brand you have. Be sure to bring an old brush you won’t mind discarding or a ruling pen.
Roll of masking or painter’s tape
Sack for trash
Your brushes – I use mostly rounds (sizes 4-14) but you will benefit from having a 1-1 ½ “ flat in your arsenal for backgrounds. Please choose thick, thirsty watercolor brushes – I am using Escoda Versatil (Laurin McCracken) and Silver Black Velvet – both brands available on amazon or through other artist suppliers and are an inexpensive alternative to sable, hold lots of water, have good spring and come to a crisp point.
I’m excited to share my process with you! If you have questions, please contact me (we are traveling so after November 3 rd – ) at dtwyford63@gmail.com or 870-464-7738. See you soon!
